Responsible for supervising the assigned Health Information departmental staff, including all satellite clinics and external HIM interns. Organizes the work flow and staff coverage on a daily basis. Cultivates a shared vision for the department that is consistent with the organization's vision and strategic initiatives by communicating and implementing department plans. Responsible to maintain a legal record for active and inactive records, which includes paper and electronic records. Responsible for the efficient and timely coordination of the health records and data entry processes. Creates and develops process improvement activities to improve productivity and reduce errors. Assists and backs-up the HIM director, as required.
Responsibilities Supervises HIM departmental staff, including assisting with hiring processes, providing training and development support for staff, conducting performance reviews, and approving timecards. Monitors daily departmental activities to ensure compliance with federal, state, and Tribal regulatory agency requirements. Prepares for meetings by preparing the agenda and presentation materials. Leads team huddles with departmental updates and changes that will directly impact the staff's work activities. Monitors work flow by effectively managing and organizing staff to meet turnaround times and project deadlines. Acts as a resource throughout the organization on Health Information Management and as a liaison between the Health Information Management department and internal/external stakeholders. Audits external HIM service vendors (Record Storage, and Records Scanned) to ensure they maintain contractual agreements and report variances as presented. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of policies, State & Federal laws, and regulations governing disclosure of protected health information. Assists in development, maintenance, and communication of policies and procedures and training materials relating to the disclosure of PHI. Maintains full knowledge and understanding of the HIM applications, including assisting in development and testing of any new or upgraded computer system, interface, and other associated improvements and resolution of system issues and problems. Assists Director with quality, service, and budgetary initiatives. Assists in collecting, reporting, and analyzing performance improvement and other data as needed along with consulting with the manager to enhance department performance. Assists in the planning of in-service education and department meetings. Participates in a variety of department, unit and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels. Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila river Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Two-Year degree from an accredited AHIMA institution. Registered Health Information Tech (RHIT) or equivalent; supervisory experience preferred. Three to eight years of experience in the field of health records and data administration within a licensed medical facility of medium size. Interest in medical subjects, patient services\care, and customer service. Prior medical environment work experience is required. Knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of an HIM department.
