Job Description:
The Machinist’s responsibility of this position takes the component to the next step of repair following the welder’s portion of the repair process.
Once the material has been welded in place and built up to allow the machinist to align and cut or grind the surface back down to the proper size and dimension for reusability, the component moves on to the next station of repair being either chroming or reassembly.
This is what makes this position unique is by having the same technician that performed the welding repairs also perform the machining process, it reduces the margin of error by utilizing the continuity of one technician.

Description in detail:

  • Must be trained in the operational process of manual lathe, Polishing and grinding, Boring and milling.
  • Field machining experience a plus
  • Good understanding of the repair of large components
  • Accurately setup and operate large vertical turret lathes.
  • Accurately setup and operate large radial drill.
  • Accurately setup and operate manual milling machines
  • Accurately setup and operate portable line boring bar equipment
  • Accurately setup and operate surface grinders and polisher.
  • Perform safety Inspection of all shop equipment prior to operations including lifting devises, power tools and hand tools.
    etc.
  • Keeps track of jobs (work orders) as they are assigned
  • Fills out work scope reports documenting all measurement prior and after machine work.
  • Keeps a safe and clean work environment.
  • Working knowledge of different types of metals, their uses and repair procedures
  • Must be proficient in use of a Micrometer, Measuring precisely with calipers, and documentation of this.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Standing, lifting and bending 75% of the time
